Canadian citizens enjoy a 60-day visa exemption for tourism. The DTV (C$400) suits remote workers. For retirement: O-A visa (1 year, 800,000 THB) — O-X 10-year is NOT available for Canadians.

Visa types available for Canadians

1. Visa exemption (tourism)

Duration: 60 days | Cost: Free | Extension: +30 days (1,900 THB, ~C$75)

Canadian citizens enter visa-free for 60 days. Stamp on arrival. Max 2 entries/year since November 2025. TDAC mandatory 72h before. Toronto–Bangkok: ~17h with stopover (via Tokyo, Doha, or Istanbul).

2. DTV – Destination Thailand Visa (digital nomad)

Duration: 5-year multi-entry, 180 days/stay | Cost: 10,000 THB (~C$400) | Savings: 500,000 THB (~C$20,000)

Apply via thaievisa.go.th. Documents: remote work contract or CRA business number, bank statements (500,000 THB), valid Canadian passport. Each stay extendable by 180 days.

3. Non-Immigrant B (work)

Duration: 90 days, extendable to 1 year | Requirements: Thai employer sponsor + e-Work Permit

Employer sponsorship required. 4:1 ratio. e-Work Permit since 2025.

4. Non-Immigrant O-A (retirement)

Duration: 1 year renewable | Age: 50+ | Finances: 800,000 THB (~C$32,000) in bank OR 65,000 THB/month

Health insurance 3M THB mandatory. CPP/OAS pensions are payable in Thailand. Provincial health insurance (OHIP, RAMQ, MSP) ceases after 183 days abroad. Private international health insurance essential.

5. Non-Immigrant O-X (10-year retirement)

Duration: 10 years (5+5) | Finances: 3 million THB (~C$120,000)

Canada is NOT on the 14-country eligibility list. Use O-A or LTR instead.

6. Non-Immigrant ED (study)

Duration: 1 year | Requirements: Enrolled in approved institution, 100h/quarter

University, Thai language, professional training.

7. LTR – Long-Term Resident

Duration: 10 years | Income: US$80,000/year min (~C$110,000)

Reduced 17% Thai tax rate. Digital work permit included.

8. Thailand Elite Visa

Duration: 5 to 20 years | Cost: 900,000 to 2M THB (~C$36,000 to C$80,000)

Premium VIP membership. Popular with Canadian snowbirds.
